Lincoln has pledged to offer one of the most advanced electrified vehicle portfolios available within the next few years, and it’s already made great strides with its powerful Corsair Grand Touring and Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrids. Soon, an all-new electric Lincoln SUV will join the lineup, and it’ll be thanks in part to developer Rivian.
Rivian and Lincoln are teaming up to deliver a new zero-emissions luxury vehicle, which will leverage the former’s flexible skateboard platform. The chassis gets this name because when it is stripped down, it has the shape of a skateboard. This gives the vehicle a low center of gravity and keeps the electric components from hindering the interior space and design.
“Our vehicle development partnership with Ford is an exciting opportunity to pair our technology with Lincoln’s vision for innovation and refinement. We are proud to collaborate on Lincoln’s first fully electric vehicle,” said Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe.
According to multiple sources, this electric vehicle will be an all-wheel-drive compact crossover and it is expected to launch either in late 2021 or in early 2022. It will likely be followed by a midsize electric crossover about a year later.
In the past three years, Lincoln has added four new SUVs to its lineup, which has helped the brand achieves its best SUV sales in the United States in 16 years. To see the latest of what Lincoln has to offer, visit La Grange Lincoln, Your Local Lincoln Dealer.
